Every fall, Chicago’s City Council spends the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving hashing out the city’s 2024 budget and Documenters will be covering it! In this 1.5-hour virtual training, we’ll cover what we’re watching, how to make sense of the budget proposal and tips for covering departmental hearings.
You don’t have to be a finance wiz to document budget hearings, and it won’t be all money talk! Documenting budget season is a fascinating way to get a sense of what the city actually values enough to invest in and if it’s actually doing a good job.
This training is strongly encouraged if you are considering applying for assignments between now and mid-November. Folks who complete this training and go on to cover 2024 budget-related meetings will receive an additional hour of pay on each assignment they submit.
