The Documenters Network focuses on equipping people to access and produce the information they need. We make our work, process and tools as open and useful as possible.

Documenters.org centralizes public meeting dates, times, locations, official records and original documentation at the city, county, and state-level in one searchable location.

For those already in our network, here is an upcoming workshop and assignment details:

Chicago Documenters is conducting at least 50 interviews on the upcoming Chicago municipal elections in February 2023. Your assignment is to complete one question form per interview.

Guidelines: We anticipate the interview will take about one hour. You will record the audio and submit the file along with the question form. The form includes basic survey questions as well as long-response questions. To complete the assignment, you must transcribe the answers to the long-response questions and lightly edit the transcript to remove any redundancies (all transcription text must be verbatim, i.e. use exactly the words your subject used in his/her response).

The entire assignment should take a total of four (4) hours paid at a rate of $18/hour for each interview.

You may conduct up to three interviews TOTAL. Chicago Documenters is looking for interviews that reflect the diversity of the city — so we ask that at least one of your interviewees lives or works in communities of color and that your interviews are different in one or more ways such as race, age, gender or socioeconomic class.

All Documenters who plan to complete interviews must attend a special assignment training. All assignments must be completed and submitted via form by the end of day (11:59 p.m.) Dec 3.
