How do Chicagoans build community power and ensure that city planning & development can help their neighborhoods thrive?

Join us November 10 for the culminating event of our Unpacking Care series, bringing together community leaders from the South and West Sides of Chicago to discuss real estate development, investment and holistic care in our neighborhoods.

With an eye toward Chicago’s city elections in February, we’ll discuss how to hold public officials accountable when it comes to community development. Plus, we’ll hear how community groups and coalitions initiate, influence and/or fight development projects — and how you can get involved.

We are pleased to welcome back the hosts from previous Public Newsrooms this year for this culminating event:

  • Cecile De Mello (Teamwork Englewood)

  • Ayesha Jaco (West Side United)

  • Tenisha Jones (Cluster of Care/WSU)

  • Tamara Davis (Herzl Elementary, CPS)

Unpacking Care Through Development is a four-part Public Newsroom series that examines the practices of community-based organizers and coalitions whose development aspirations derive from genuine care for their communities. Each Public Newsroom session will feature individual organizers and coalitions actively working to create and implement initiatives that promote the holistic development of West and South Side communities.
